Activity Description

Chobe National Park is one of Southern Africa’s most renowned safari destinations. A well established, successful conservation area that boasts four of the Big 5, and incredible wildlife sightings. As part of the extensive Kavango-Zambezi Trans frontier Conservation Area, this area is collectively home to over 80% of Africa’s remaining elephant populations.

Located in Botswana, just over the border with Zimbabwe and a stone’s throw away from Victoria Falls, this is a very popular safari opportunity for those keen to maximize their wildlife sightings. Be prepared to dedicate a day to this trip, but if its animals you want to see, then it’s definitely worth it

You will be collected in the early morning on the day of your safari and transferred to the border and into Botswana approximately 70km from Victoria Falls. This transfer takes you right through the middle of the Zambezi National Park, and is a safari experience on its own. From the border you board your safari vehicle and head to the lodge for refreshments and final preparations.

Then, into your safari! Home to literally thousands of elephants, buffalo and a variety of plains game. With the abundance of food, the predator populations are healthy, and whilst these animals are always elusive, lion and leopard sightings are regular.

Head back to the lodge to cool off and have some lunch, before boarding purpose built game viewing boats which cruise up and down the shores of the Chobe River. Full of hippo and crocodile as well as multitudes of animals along the shore. A favorite is come across elephants swimming, completely submerged with just their trunks sticking out of the water like the periscope of a submarine.

Your safari ends with a transfer back to your hotel in Zimbabwe, in time for dinner at one of the exceptional restaurants.

What is the difference between a Chobe National Park Safari and a Zambezi National Park Safari?

As mentioned above, each of these National Parks are based in different countries. Chobe being in Botswana and Zambezi being in Zimbabwe. This means that those who wish to do a safari in Chobe get to cross another country off their travel list.

When it comes to the Safari experience, Chobe is a far more established National Park that has had significant resources poured into it to keep it safe and offer incredible wildlife experiences. Whilst Zambezi National Park has great animals, and can really deliver some amazing sightings, these are hit and miss. Chobe has the reputation of delivering great sightings regularly.

The experiences themselves are also very different. Whilst both aim to deliver a great wildlife safari, the Chobe trip offers both a game drive and a boat cruise in the same product. A Zambezi Safari is just the drive.

This in turn creates a big difference in the length and price of the different Safaris. The Chobe Safari is a full day experience and will cost in the region of $250 per person. The Zambezi National Park Safari is a 3-4 hour drive that will cost roughly $70 per person.

If wildlife is high on your list of things to see, then we highly recommend the Chobe National Park Safari.
